What I was trying to do
I wanted to capture a juxtaposition between motion and standing still. I chose a moving train (of people already on their way) vs a passenger (still waiting) and used the glass to separate the two states while condensing focus onto a single, isolated subject.
What worked
Three things had to happen: (1) syncing the shutter to the train speed to open up a blurred window through the glass, (2) positioning the blur to frame a subject, and (3) the subject standing still for the entire shot. The first two I could control to some degree, but the third was out of my hands. This was roughly my tenth attempt before it landed.
What I'd do differently
I'd like a subject with more legible body language, like if they had more obviously glanced at the tunnel or looked more impatient. But this is hard to catch! After the better part of the afternoon, I got this and was happy with it so I walked away.
