Not Just a Magazine or Website - But a Community

Gone are the days of the 90's and before, where I'd need a magazine to learn about the world of a particular subject (thanks to the internet...) - skateboarding, snowboarding, or some subculture offshoot. Laying on your bed, crinkling the paper as you flip through, trying to find your new favorite athlete or artist, a new trick or tip, or an account of an interesting conversation. But, that's not to say we stopped yearning for this tactile and compiled issue of ideas. There is something about a carefully curated amalgamation of subculture; a outlet for new (and old) artists to be on display; and hunting for some tidbit of experience or idea or thought that has been immortalized on a page. All mushed together into a serialized piece of paper or digital content. Framelines seems to have brought back this nostalgia to me (even if I have read some issues on my iPad). And even more: it's broken the 2D renderings of its pages. It's created a community and a real life outlet for creativity through its assignments. Shane and Josh have created something great between their YouTube channel, Framelines, and the community they generated. Framelines feels like a top notch creation by people that are involved in the craft. Not just some magazine made to garner our attention - but one that follows a leading path of a collective, and often niche, interest. Regardless of where I may read a new issue, nostalgia does kick in, and I'm taken back to my bedroom as a kid, with my kid brain taking in overloads of info of a subject I'm totally engrossed in. If the nostalgia is intentional or not, or the magazine was just an approach due to street culture of zines and photo books, the driving force however is still the subject matter the creators have curated for us. They keep their eye trained through the viewfinder, and give us that snapshot of what exactly we want - content made by those that do, and doors that open to new ideas and discoveries within our craft.

Best street photography magazine & community

Besides photo books, framelines is literally the only printed media I buy to get inspiration for my own photography. They feature high profile artists and always find something new & surprising. Print quality is amazing these days. The ever growing community is one of the most inclusive and active online communities I have experienced thus far.

    Read Between Frame Lines

Framelines is a must-have for any street photographer because it doesn’t see the genre as just a museum exhibit. It’s not often you come across a print magazine that’s so dedicated to giving young, working photographers a platform alongside the big names, and that combination is exactly why it feels so important.

    Such a treat

Whenever the next issue of Framelines drops through the mail it is SUCH a treat, a real treasure trove of street photography. I also love how Josh and Shane balance male / female photographers every issue. In a male-dominated art form, that really makes a difference and matters. And the women they profile are 🔥🔥🔥
