What I was trying to do
I wanted to capture the fragile moment of connection between humans and the urban environment. Rather than documenting people feeding pigeons, I was interested in the brief instant before contact—the space where trust, curiosity, and uncertainty coexist.
What worked
The timing of the image allowed me to freeze a fleeting gesture: the bird suspended in midair and the open hand waiting below. The black-and-white treatment simplifies the scene and emphasizes form, movement, and emotion, while the surrounding flock provides context without distracting from the central interaction.
What I'd do differently
If I were to revisit the scene, I would spend more time exploring different angles and distances, perhaps isolating the subject further from the background. However, the unpredictability of the moment is also what gives the photograph its energy, so I would be careful not to lose that spontaneity.
