What I was trying to do
I was in this spot a very long time (Marrakesh). Behind this bike shop was a barbeque place, and I worked out that about every 20 seconds a burts of smoke would appear and would be lit up by a light somewhere behind. Normally in this city, photographers can get shoo'd away pretty quickly, but I stood my ground and tried to blend in - and just become part of the scene. The guy in the frame was coming in and out and the plan was to silouette his head with the smoke and use the bikes as a leading line - at the same time splitting the frame and using the warm/cold colours from each side. I think I must have taken 100 plus shots, and finally it all came together.
What worked
Colours, the smoke, cinematic feel and the 'attitude' of the guy - plus the colour pallette is pretty damn good with the browns, warm amber and a bit of blue from the smoke.
What I'd do differently
Oh god, I couldn't try it again lol.
