I was looking for an unusual place in Hannover and wanted to capture this damp, almost abandoned "liminal-space" feeling, which is something I’m very drawn to in photography. It’s enormous down there, but almost empty, with all this artificial light, wet concrete and so much (what feels like) unused space. Then this man walked through, and I felt that the contrast between the scale of the place and this single figure was what made the scene for me. Black and white felt right because it pushed the light, texture and emptiness even further somehow
What worked:
I think the wet concrete, the artificial light and the negative space on the right worked really well
What I'd do differently:
If I did it again, Id maybe try to get a bit more separation around the figure..but without losing that dark atmosphere
