Intent
Behind the frame
- What I was trying to do:
- I wanted to capture that severe angled shadow which slices through the frame and the brutalist architecture of the Southbank Centre with a human element added in, firstly to show contrast in form but also to give a sense of scale. I also love the juxtaposition of the harsh lines of the architectural shadows compared with the dappled shadows of the trees above. This photo has not been edited after negative conversion, other than cropping and straightening. - What worked:
- I was amazed I actually captured everything I wanted to! With shooting film you never quite know if it's worked until your scans are back, so seeing this on the roll was an amazing feeling.
- What I'd do differently:
- Absolutely nothing!

Southbank and Barbican are the gifts that keep on giving and you have been rewarded for your efforts, Christopher. Catching her in mid stride as you did is why I have a winder on my film camera. I like the latitude of XP-2. Cheers.
