Behind the frame
What I was trying to do:
Stena Line from Stranraer to Belfast on an overcast, cold, calm summer afternoon. The light was flat creating a nice contrast with the industrial textures and tones of the ferry. The flat light seamed to suck the colour out of the world, leaving a monochrome scene with nothing but the contrast and tone to do the talking.
What worked:
I liked the slightly strange perspective and the rule of third balance, or unbalance. The black flat surfaces contrasting with the white verticals. The minimal feel with plenty of negative space leaving the only details in the couples clothing and the life ring on the railings.
What I'd do differently:
I would have like more movement in the water with a slightly longer exposure.
