Behind the frame
What I was trying to do:
The atmosphere was amazing, a quarter of the population of Tokyo show up for this event and I wanted to show how dense everything was. I often struggle to compose very busy scenes, so this one was a challenge for me. I wanted to show interactions in the crowd around the shrine, the strain of carrying this 1 tonne shrine and the distance behind to emphasise how busy it was.
What worked:
The enthusiasm and interactions and crowd crush.
What I'd do differently:
Slightly wider, I shot on a burst, but as it was moving my favourite interactions didn’t align with the shrine completely in frame. It was being thrown up and down. Maybe a slower shutter speed to emphasise movement and action.
