What I was trying to do

I took an early morning walk through a local village and saw the baker hard at work before anyone had even risen. I love the expectancy in this scene, and the way the lights draw your eye to the baker himself, whose hands are poised ready to work. The muted colours are fitting for the time of day and provide balance left and right, and front to back. The glass window keeps the camera at a critical distance, from where the entire empty cafe is in view, with the baker as the focus — acting as a hungry customer who has arrived for his morning loaf too early.
