What I was trying to do
I pass this place every morning to get coffee. If the light is good I'll take a photo. This one is my favourite. I always try to capture a person in the light but I had not seen light this nice before and I waited for awhile until one person walked through the image and it was only when I looked at the image I realised that there was another man, looking more or less at me. His expression suggest annoyance. This was taken in Spain where people in general do not want to be photographed on the street.
What worked
The light and texture in the image was just right for this moment. The two people in the photo are more or less on the first third line and the strong rectangle of light sweeping off to the right suggests a direction to the motion of the people. The various hanging restaurant bunting leads the eye across the frame to the window at the top where curtains are visible and match the bunting's vertical stripes.
What I'd do differently
I have taken way more than a hundred photos here. A few are good, some are worth keeping, but most are iterations on previous images. This felt different o me, usually the scene is 'cleaner but this had atmosphere.
