Intent
Behind the frame
What I was trying to do:
I wanted to highlight the symmetry of the pointed flagpoles and the graphic on the lorries. Monochrome works well for this because the image is purely about shapes. I went for a dark and contrasted treatment, inspired by the landscapes of McCullin and Koudelka - although these two are not as good as I am obviously... ;-)
What worked:
I was pleased with the way the sky goes bright on the left hand side, allowing the flagpoles to stand out, this is required for them to look like the graphics on the lorries. I took a few versions that included people, but I felt they didn't add to the intention of the image so went for this version, which I feel is more purposeful instead.
What I'd do differently:
I am not a lover of monochrome so I probably need to learn how to edit B&W properly...
