I happened to be on the St. Andrews Suspension Bridge in Glasgow just as a local rowing club had taken to the water, and I knew it would be cool to get a top down shot of one of them as they passed underneath me. When I saw one decked out in blue, I thought it'd make a great shot because the bridge itself is also blue. The starts aligned and this was the result.
What worked:
I like the geometry of the composition, and of course the fact the blue of the rower's suit, as well as the flashes of blue on the boat matched the blue of the bridge. I felt it was important to bring in part of the bridge too just to add an extra layer to the foreground, and give the photo more depth.
What I'd do differently:
I'd liked to have been more centred so I could have got the entire rower in the shot. A wider lens could also have helped here - I shot this on a 35mm. Something wider could have given a bit more context, and perhaps made the whole frame breathe a bit more.
