I can imagine the struggle in India 😀. I photographed in Bangalore and vicinity in 2002 on color slide film. It was great, never thought of b/w there. But if you want to train your brain, view the scenes through an EVF (if your camera has one) or camera screen preset to b/w. Try to see how the camera renders the colors to b/w. Also, find high contrast and / or backlit scenes. Enjoy the exercise 😎.Reply

First thing I did was try and expose for the highlights and ignore the rest of the image. That has helped a tonne, because if creates, at least for me, some depth in tone... my images don't feel as muddy.Reply

Maybe try some portraits with plain backgrounds. Look for interesting light, great faces, interesting background textures but not busy backgrounds.Reply

Shooting in black & white makes you focus more on what you want to capture and remove any distractions with color.

Apply the B&W filter on your display for the remainder of this month and you'll slowly find out what draws your attention, specially with dark shadows, silhouettes, high contrast scenarios.

Taking pictures in monochrome will open a new world for you to try. Look at Fan Ho's work for inspiration, he has some spectacular black and white photos.Reply

Try having a look through some of your existing images, presuming you shoot digitally, and review in editing software. In Lightroom Classic you press 'v' to show you a black and white version of your image. You may get a feel for what works and doesn't and then take that into the field. Good luck.Reply
