Recently I had to send my Q3 for servicing (oh Leica) and it's my only digital camera, knowing Leica it will be away for ages, I may never see it again so I was like what do I do in the meantime? Even older mirrorless are a few £100 and I didn't want to spend that on something I don't really want, or splurge on a ZF or SL. Then it dawned on me..DSLRs! I read the 5D is pretty good for adapting manual lenses of which a have a few of and the D5 classic is less than a Pret lunch these days. So I picked one up for £70, adapted my 50 Cron R to it and well, I could buy like 50 of these for the price of a Q3 😬
Welcome to my DSLR (and film) world, Dean. They cover all of my needs, on the street or inside with strobes or constant lights. It's easier to buy a new one than to get it fixed, besides the motor failing on one lens, nothing has let me down in ten years. Enjoy your DSLR vacation.
I've always shot film even before digital and I had a Nikon D70 at uni many many moons ago, but I'd never tried one with a true manual focus lens, feels very much like shooting with a Leica R8
I could never really get on with manual lenses and DSLRs. All you had was a confirmation dot to tell you when you were in focus. Then the lens could still suffer from front/back focus issues. Much prefer mirrorless for manual even though quite a lot of DSLRs are absolute bargains.
Yeah it seems they are not all created equally, apparently the 5d is particularly good though especially with the R lenses, I've been using the lens wide open and it's been very accurate
