What does fill the frame mean to you?
It took me some time to realize filling the frame refers to meaning not elements.
That's a really good question Jonathan. I was out shooting today with this months assignment in mind and came back with a few shots that on the face of it could fit the brief but all completely different in style and composition. Should be interesting and inspiring to see what people come up with.

Hi Jonathan.
I think of the image I'm taking in terms of it being a full page bleed in a magazine; a definitive left hand page, a definitive right hand page or a double page spread (DPS).
My shooting ratio is a factor for these and I try to crop in camera, also, I try to avoid lettering so the image can be flopped. The blocking of people in an image relevant to the gutter in a double page spread is something I try to remember when shooting horizontal.
An art director friend said it would be helpful to do this when shooting and envisage where the image could be used, thinking of a book cover or an album cover can also be useful.

Guidance is a good word, Jonathan. There will be those who try and guide over a cliff top because they are threatened by you. And those who walk beside you pointing out the beauty spots.

I feel Frame Lines is a highly supportive place for street photographers. Our conversation is a good example of that. I also enjoy the opportunity to be presented with a new or different perspective than what I am used to. It’s the use of questions that makes it feel collaborative versus confrontational. yes I agree. Street photography is so niche and lonely sometimes. It is great to have a platform to showcase work, get some feedback and ideas on how to approach it. insta / flickr or whatever can be a bit dry and one way.
