Hi everyone. I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess many of us are fed up of Instagram. I’ve been using Glass to share my photos for a few years now and really enjoy it. There’s no algorithms, reels or social media crap such as likes or follow counts. Just a really well made app that puts photography first. I think people that try it expect an insta alternative with infinite engagement, but it’s more similar to the experience here - a smaller community of photography lovers. I've heard good stuff about glass. I think that @antonpodolsky is also a fan?
I like the idea of Glass and Foto app but I kinda like that fact that non photographers may get to see my stuff, if the Insta algo gods choose to bless me.
I think that's one of the reasons why ive navigated towards Substack.
Outside of those, this place is ticking alot of the no algo, no pressure, only good street people, stuff.
Yeah I think the lack of non-photographers and it being a paid service is glass's two main negatives for people.
I'll do some low effort posts to throw on IG in the hope people might see it, but I don't mind paying for Glass as it's really enjoyable to use compared to IG which feels like a chore.
Oh, not negatives. Being for photographers and being paid for means it's likely that quality stuff will be on there. I'm glad that Glass is an option for us all

I love Glass. Your phone will purr when you like a photo with a “cat” tag.
Yeah I find Glass very enjoyable to use. The app and browser version are very well made. I'm happy to get less engagement on photos so I can use an app/website that I actually enjoy.

IMHO, Glass has the best photo app to look at and use, the visual design and UX are smart. They get the basics right.
It's a very small team and there some minor usability quirks. I emailed them about one and the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer replied to my email within hours. :-)

Have a look through the members bit and dive into the categories.
Takes a little more effort than IG to find people to follow as there’s no algorithm shoving people down your throat ha. But worth the effort I think.
Glass might be the nicest looking app I use. The UI is very smooth and Liquid Glass elements are very polished. Browsing photos is a great experience on mobile compared to many apps. It’s a shame more people aren’t on there or maybe I have just not been able to discover them.
It’s 40$ which works out to about £30 for the year. There’s another tier up which is closer to £100 but I wouldn’t recommend that until you’ve tried it out for a bit

My early experience with it hasn't engaged me yet. I'm not sure I'm the right user for a 'post photos and seemingly not much else' platform these days.
I much prefer the chat you get in forums like this or the competition element that Or it didn't happen (which I know you use as well 🙂)
I'll keep trying, just not sure I have found a reason to continually go back to Glass yet
I am really enjoying Glass as well. Anton introduced me it on a Framelines meet up. It is great to see a few others from the community on Glass. It’s a really friendly community and very supportive. As someone that does not have an instagram account, it works well for me.
Yes I enjoy using Glass too. I like the way you separate images into series which presents well.
I tried Glass a very long time ago now, but now use Foto and Irys, although I am thinking of leaving Irys as I prefer Foto’s ui
I really tried with Irys but found it really jarring to use. Foto is better but I just prefer Glass out of the three. All miles better than IG though!
