Flash and street photography
I’ve just bought a flash and I’m looking forward to experimenting with it tomorrow at an event I regularly photograph. I’ve mainly shot natural light up to now, so flash is a bit of a new territory for me. I’m particularly interested in using it for candid street/event photography and getting a feel for when it actually adds something to the image rather than just using it for the sake of it. For those of you who use flash regularly, any tips, techniques or good resources for learning more about flash and street photography would be really appreciated
What camera are you using it with?
I’m using a Fuji X100VI and a godox IT32 flash
Ah cool so the flash should sync at any speed, I would typically shoot a flash manually at like iso100-200 f5.6 or F8 if you're working close. Then if you really want to freeze action use any fast shutter speed but if you want to experiment with light trails you can shoot at like 1/15 and whip the camera about after the flash triggers

If anyone ever flashed me directly in the eyes I would probably punch them. I have epilepsy and get migraines.

Very much an amateur with the flash as I only started earlier this year. Events definitely help with the confidence as people are generally more accepting of it when it's a protest or something, as it's half expected. Very tough to get the confidence to use it on a normal street walk, still struggling with that one!
Yes events are sort of easier,not quite ready for street, as I do tend to get close
Godax iT32 super good cause you can detach it. Also it’s amazing cause you get to mix it with natural light. Also play with slow shutter speeds and coloured gells 👌 PS most people don’t care either, it’s a good conversation starter most of the time or people just walk on by

I also recommend starting flash at street events where it’s psychologically more socially appropriate :)
