Backup Advice
I imagine this has been discussed before, but my hard drive situation is a hot mess and I need to get a handle on things. Would love to hear how others back up their work and in particular I’m hoping for a simple yet reliable solution. 🙏🏻
Bad news is, I've always found backup to be a hot mess as well. I figured out I need a working copy of my picture library (and pictures), snapshots once a day and off-site backup. I ended up building something myself, which is not recommended unless you already have an idea on how to set something up.
Depending on budget, expertise and time, I'd probably go with something like a ugreen NAS (I think there's a Framelines video about that) and either one or two portable Sandisk 2TB SSD drives with one of those stored somewhere not my house. Online solutions like Dropbox would probably work as well, but I have no experience with those.
I'm also not a professional, just someone that's not going to be caught having to explain where all the family pictures went 😅

I have a Lightroom catalog on an SSD for my "present" work. All other past photos are in a Synology NAS folder that's just a copy of past catalogs.
I use Carbon Copy to move photo files to the NAS after I import any new photos to my SSD. The NAS is set up to backup to Blackblaze every 5 days.
I'm not a professional photographer; I just became paranoid after some personal events, and I didn't want to lose any pictures.
If you're on a Mac, I suggest using carbon copy or hazel to handle the "automation" part of copying files from your computer or external disk to a NAS.
