Who shoots film?
I have a few Minolta camera. This one is from my XDs with the MC III 50mm 1.4.
I mostly shoot film when I'm travelling these days. Planning for being old spending my time in a home dark room enlarging negs from my life
I’ve always wanted to learn to develop and print my own film. I should see if the local colleges have any class.
Honestly you can learn everything on YouTube, developing at home is easy enough. Dark room it depends on space, but enlargers are cheap and you can make a pop up dark room in your bathroom
Hi Jonathan. A few months ago I didn't own a film camera. However, things have changed recently. Looks Iike I'm going to need another pelican case :-))
There is something about shooting film that both brings me back to my first camera (which I still have) and the slower pace of shooting, not to mention the refresher course on delayed gratification.
So, how many times did you check the back of the camera to see if you got the shot? 📷😂👍
I always have the rear screen off and review if I need to with my OVF cameras and tethered in my little home studio. The screen is on when I shoot with my M43. My first camera was a Pen f (which I no longer have) lots diptychs and juxtapositions :-))
Minolta never really took off in the UK compared to the reputation it has in the U.S.
I’m poking fun at myself because when I started shooting film again I caught myself looking at the back of the camera and chuckling as I remember this is a film camera. 👉😂💨

Hi Jonathan! I shoot film about 50% of the time! I enjoy both processes. All of these were shot with a Nikon FM3A and a 40mm Ultron.
I like these shots. But Bess, I love the first one! I want to know what’s got them so jovial! Have you printed your photographs?
Oh thank you! They're telling old family stories after years of not seeing each other.
I develop and scan at home (and am slowly starting a small mail-in film lab!) but I've not done any darkroom prints since high school. Would love to get back in it! Are you printing the days?

I shoot Kodak Porta 400 and HP 5 mostly.
I’ve been shooting film for a few years now, and exclusively for the past 6 months. I find it a lot more fun than digital, but damn is it expensive. It also takes me about 10-14 days to get my scans back from my lab, and I don’t really plan on going down the rabbit hole of self developing/scanning.
I made the commitment to shoot only film on my trip to Japan recently, and getting 30 rolls developed at once was very painful.
I also shoot differently between the two. With my Fuji X100, I rely much more on burst shooting, cropping, editing my way out of exposure mistakes, etc. With film, I’m exposing and focusing manually, and it makes me be much more considerate of how I’m taking shots, so I feel my photos are more meaningful.
Maybe I’ll switch back to digital for most of my day to day shooting, but for now, film is just too fun.
Boy oh boy is it expensive I calculated that a 36 roll of Portra 400 costs about $75 US from box to small prints and negs. I use to include scans but I find it both enjoyable to see the prints, and cost saving to he selective with scans. I have the original Minolta Maxxum 7000 and the Minolta a9, both autofocus. I also have the Minolta XDs (my favorite) and the X 370. The Maxxum 7000 was the first camera I bought so highly attached to that one. A friend gave me a bunch of cameras of which I kept the X 370. The XDs and the a9 I bought from Japan on eBay.
Yeah I agree with the prints, but stopped bc of cost. I did get a nice printer though, and now I can print any shots I like. They make for good inexpensive gifts too.

I switch between film and digital but finding that a bit too confusing lately. I love film but the costs and time spent devving/processing myself is frustrating. I think film might become more of a luxury/special occasion experience for me which is a shame. Would love my own darkroom one day!

Film exclusively. Have way too many cameras by now... But love the individual experience with each of them. Really enjoy the whole process from shooting to developing the film and creating prints in the darkroom. Was recently thinking about if I should go digital, but the prospect of sitting in front of a screen instead in the darkroom felt not pleasant at all. So, I guess I stick to analog.
