What I was trying to do

When walking through Chinatown I saw this man in Viet Food, sitting directly in the sunlight staring down at his drink. He looked like he was occupied in thought and as though he was contemplating something. I therefore wanted to isolate him from everything else that was going on from both inside and outside the restaurant, and to try and evoke a sense of quiet and peace to match his seemingly contemplative state.

What worked

The dynamic lighting and reflections from the street give good layering, which help give the photograph depth

What I'd do differently

Getting closer and shooting the subject within a tighter frame could better focus the audience's eye on his facial expression
