I've been shooting my local town with my brother as part of a long term project for a number of years and we photograph there at least once a week so it is very much a place where the streets are so familiar but the fabric of it all changes often. This image was taken at what used to one of the entrances to the old Fremlin brewery which used to exist on this site (it's now a shopping centre). The town itself is not what you could call beautiful but when the light is as glorious as it was on this day it often brings it alive. This lady stopped underneath the arch and I just waited to see if she would look up and she did! I was trying to capture a moment of quiet contemplation while also capturing aspects of the town itself.
What worked:
The light was so good for what I wanted to achieve, I liked the sense of perspective behind her and I'm glad I waited until she looked up.
What I'd do differently:
Maybe taken one or two more shots at different angles just to see if I could get a better or alternative.composition
