The brief
The places we know best are often the hardest to see. Your street, your commute, the shop on the corner, the walk you do every day. Familiarity has a way of turning them invisible. This month, photograph the environment you actually live in, the things you'd normally pass without a second look.
The challenge is to take notice. Walk your usual route slowly and find a frame you've never seen before: the light at a certain hour, a neighbour you half recognise, the small routines that give a place its character. You don't need to go anywhere special. Everything you need is within a short walk of your front door.
For a good example, see Wesley Verhoeve's (this month's guest editor) new book, NOTICE Journal, Volume Two, a summer in Ukraine spent photographing the everyday things people hold onto.

Guest editor
Photographer/Educator, Amsterdam
I was born in a small village in the Netherlands but spent my most formative twenty years in New York City. My photography focuses on people and community, and the places they call home. I pay close attention to what's right in front of me, which is how my first book NOTICE came together: I walked the same streets of my Vancouver neighborhood for 123 days until those familiar blocks became something I needed to put into a book. I did the same thing in Amsterdam when I moved there and made NOTICE Journal Volume One, and now with my new book NOTICE Journal Volume Two I've gone more deeply into the idea of home, photographing family life and the feeling of belonging in Ukraine, where my partner is from. I work best in long-term series and extensive projects, where the whole point is showing up consistently. I also run Process, a weekly newsletter about photography and finding your voice, and I've curated 96 exhibitions at the International Center of Photography in New York featuring work by over 300 photographers from 53 countries.
