Behind the frame
What I was trying to do:
Obscuring the mundane. My photographs tend to swing between genuinely mundane and deadpan, and obscure and hallucinatory. Mostly on purpose, sometimes by mistake. This is a textured rock behind a pane of glass that was throwing up reflected silhouettes of people walking past. I waited for one that read clearly enough, keeping the texture sharp and letting the figure soften into it. This one was on purpose. Leica Q2.
What worked:
I was happy with the balance between the two layers. The texture holds its detail right across the frame and the figure sits inside the bright arc almost like it's been framed by it. Black and white felt right because it lets the ripples and the silhouette compete on tone alone.
What I'd do differently:
The figure isn't quite alone. There's a second shape on the right edge of the arc that muddies the read, and I'd have liked one clean silhouette. I'd also take more frames to get it, and probably shift slightly so the bright patch top left wasn't pulling the eye away. The bottom third is weaker than the rest and I'd consider a tighter crop or a different angle to lose it.
