For this assignment, we want to see a street or documentary photograph captured in black and white. Stripping away colour allows you to focus on contrast, texture, shape, and emotion 😱
Whether you shoot in monochrome mode, convert your images in post or shoot film - shooting in black and white is an exercise in viewing the world differently.
Tips for the assignment:
Focus on light and shadow – Strong contrasts can add depth and drama to your street photos.
Emphasise texture and shape – Without colour, textures like brick, skin, and fabric become more pronounced.
Train your eye in monochrome – If possible, set your EVF or LCD to black and white to help you see tones instead of colours.
Experiment with post-processing – Try different levels of contrast, grain, and tonality see how that affects the mood of your photograph.
