Custom DCP-files
Not sure this is the right channels for this, but since we don't have a software/postprocessing channel(hint 馃槄)聽 For a while I've been interested in creating my own DCP-files. For those that don't know, DCP-files are like the very first thing that gets applied when you open a raw-file with whatever editor, like when you open in lightroom and you know that Adobe standard profile? That is a DCP-file! Adobe offers a free very basic editor for creating DCP-files from a DNG. So what I've done here is find a photo shot with Porta 400 with a ColorChecker chart, then I found a Pentax 645Z dng raw file with the very same color chart and then I tried matching the color to the best of my abilities. Shot 1 is the Porta 400 photo(obviously) Shot 2 is the 645Z file with my custom DCP profile I think I did pretty well!聽 Now shooting test charts are all fine and dandy, but does the profile actually work for a 'real' photo? To my surprise, yes! I'm actually really happy with it! Shot 3 is a 645Z dng with just my custom DCP-file and some exposure and whitebalance correction. Even the skin-tones turned out pretty nice imo!
That came out very well indeed. The skin tones look perfect.
And I thought setting custom white balance was a technical step too far 馃槅

Looks very good to me! I liked that photo when you posted it on Discord as well. Are you making that DCP Profile available for people to try somewhere?
Hmm well the DCP-files are camera specific, they basically tell the raw editor how the raw-file data should map to RGB values. I've seen some people have success using profiles from different cameras but the same maker, but really they should be created per camera model. But it might be fun to make one for some popular camera just to let people try!
I see, yeah that鈥檇 be great. It鈥檚 one of the things I miss from Fuji cameras now that I鈥檓 shooting with a Leica. The colours are not bad, but being able to choose those film profiles when editing was something I really liked.

Yea! I usually use LUTs to edit my photos, and this journey started with me looking into how to make my own LUTs. But that seemed to be a bit of a hassle and required paid software I don't own. But in researching all this I came across people discussing DCP profiles, which are basically luts too, and since Adobe offers a free and very lightweight software to make DCP-files I thought I might as well try!
