Show us your best monochrome street photo.
The brief
Monochrome is less a technique than a way of looking, and this one is deliberately wide open. Some of you shoot it by default. Some of you almost never do. Whichever camp you are in, we want a street photograph that earns its black and white, rather than one that simply had the colour taken off it.
We want to see interesting use of tone, light, contrast and texture.
This one is guest-curated by Sam Lintaro Hopf, a photographer and filmmaker based in Hamburg that I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with from his YouTube channel and Ricoh ambassadorship.
Issue #11 out now
With Sean Anthony, Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen and Karlynne Wintels.

“The tension here in getting this photo JUST before the doors closed is great. Was it one of those moments where you look at the camera to see if you got it?” — Shane

“Really interesting shot with the interactions between subjects, and use of reflections.” — Shane

“Great work Noah. I'd love to see more of this series.” — Shane

“Love it Alex, the black dog hiding at the back - so fun and clever.” — Josh

“There's a perfect flow to this frame, from the top corner out into the foreground. I also like the mystery of it, and of course great work with texture and tone.” — Shane

“Beautiful gesture with the sun on his face, and even though we can't see the warmth, we can feel it. I love this sort of off-kilter framing in a square image too.” — Shane

“Love it Mike, so much emotion and joy. Stunning work” — Josh

“Stunning work, love the motion, the expression on the kid, the arms crossed, shooting it in black and white makes it so hard to place in time too. Incredible work.” — Josh
