Best 50mm for Leica M11?
Which 50mm you would recommend for the M11? So many options and hard to decide. I would love a fast one possibly Leica. At the moment the summilux 1.4 asph 11891 seems to be the best option. Does anyone have experience with this lens and would you recommend it? Thanks a lot
Two overlooked options:
Summarit 50mm - excellent modern optics. Excellent erconomics. Small and light.
One of my favourite 50s is the thypoch eureka collapsing fifty. Very very small. Looks cool, and has a very special rendering - especially wide opens it’s got kind of a romantic character to it.
Thanks Shane. I saw the Summarit and it looks like a good one. It’s f2.4 and that’s the only thing what holding me back on it. Have you used it at night or in low light?

I’ve been shooting with a Summicron 50mm 6-bit (the one with the hood incorporated) for a few years (M6 and M11 since last year) and I’m quite happy with the results. The only thing I miss compared with my 35 cron is the focusing tab. But in terms of sharpness and overall optical quality I’m very pleased.

I agree with Shane. Leica's Summarit 50mm is the best value in optical quality within the Leica system. Minute size, wonderful ergonomics (finger tab at 5' focal, buttery-smooth focus ring), and cost. It's a strong workhorse choice lens that I've owned (twice) over my 25+ years with the Leica M system.
Next up the line I would recommend the 50mm Summicron F2 (not the Apo-Summicron which is a marginally better lens but more costly). The Summilux F1.4 is, of course, a good choice but, again, much bulkier and more expensive.
Voigtlander's lenses are also excellent and much less expensive. But they are not 6-bit coded to link to Exif data, if that's important you you.

All these lenses seem great options and that makes it very difficult to decide on one. I spent the whole day learn about it on YouTube and read several reviews too.
I think I’ll go to a Leica store and try some before buying 👍
