Favorite sony e mount lenses

My area became flooded with A7RV after the new models released, so I sold all my other gear and picked one up mint for a steal. Sony shooters, what are your favorite compact lenses for e mount? Im testing out the ttartisan 40mm and pleasantly surprised for a $150 lens, but have my eye on the sony zeiss 2.8 as my longterm daily carry lens. I also have a Simera 28 on the way. Have no experience with the mount and the lens options are overwhelming.

Well, I love my 24mm f/2.8. It's pretty compact, and it looks discreet on my A7C. The entire G pancake lineup is solid.

I have th 40mm f2:5 G very compact and great image quality. I have the 24-50 f2:8 G and its another great lens, not heavy or bulky

I recently switched to an A7RIV and have a Samsung 75 and 45 f1.8 AF and love them both. Cheap, super light and lovely falloff. Also overwhelmed by choice and know little about what’s next lens for me 😄

From the sublime (I imagine) suggestions, to the ridiculous...

(It's the lens from a disposable film camera 😆)

Serious suggestions this time (with a frame taken using the Pentax).

the pentax looks cool, im going to be exploring adapting manual lenses for sure (one of the reason I wanted FF). I have heard good things about the Zeiss too!

Zeiss 55mm rules all.

Damn these are only $300 now. Less than 300g weight as well, I may have to pick one up!

A steal for one of my favourite lenses ever made. Great on the street, portrait shoots and event work.

Figure out which focal length you prefer and look at the popular choices for that focal length. I've shot 45mm equivalent for years, so the 40mm f/2.5G on full frame was a natural fit. I added the 28mm f/2.0 for that wide-but-not-too-wide look. Looking back I might have gotten the new 24-50mm zoom, but I really like my primes.

I do like my Sony 35mm f/1.8. Most of my street photos I'm using either that one or the Sony 85mm

I can’t claim a “favorite”…all of mine are excellent within a range of missions. But here’s a “tip” from one A7R xx / A7CR shooter to another. One of the great advantages of the 61mp bodies is being able to use APS-C lenses when you don’t need the whole enormous full file size. My favorite technique with my A7R xx bodies is to use Sigma’s terrific 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary zoom lens (https://www.sigmaphoto.com/18-50mm-f2-8-dc-dn-c) for casual work. It’s light, much smaller than a comparable ff zoom lens and offers excellent image quality.

Hey Ken! Yea that's one of the reasons I picked it up. I think for a zoom lens this is gonna be my move for sure.

The Zeiss 35mm f2.8 and the 24mm f2.8 G are my two go-to lenses. Anything else is too big for street for me 😂

I just bought a used copy of the 35mm 2.8! I will hold on anything wide angle til this bad boy comes out. Pretty much covers the two focal lengths I need. https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/viltrox-26mm-f-2-8-pancake-fe-lens-is-coming-soon-for-299/

Looks interesting, one step closer to a pancake 28mm 😂

Can just crop those extra 2mm ;)

This is a great thread! I am days away from picking up the A7V and am looking for lenses.

That camera can basically see in the dark, it's insane. I would've gotten that but I got my a7rv used for less than an a7v.

That’s what I’m looking for! I’ve been on the fence about moving from Fuji to Full Frame, but I’ve been shooting a lot of concerts in dark clubs and need all the extra range I can get.

Yeah that with any 1.8 lens will do very well. Viltrox has a nice range of 1.8 Evo Primes that are all like $300ish range and really well reviewed.

Replying to Matt Hubert

I was just looking at those. I have the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 for Fuji and it’s a beast so I imagine those EVOs can handle themselves nicely. Believe it or not the Fuji 50-140 f/2.8 does a surprisingly good job at shows so just moving to full frame and using a f/2.8 will be a step up. I’m looking at the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 to take its place.

My current lens of choice is my Voigtlander 40mm f2 Septon.

Sony FE 28-60mm f/4-5.6 Lens is also extremely tiny, sharp, and is weather sealed if anyone is looking for a small daytime street zoom kit. At 5.6-F11 it's pin sharp and perfect for street if you dont need a fast lens
