Balancing act. Large woven baskets balanced effortlessly on their heads, these women move continuously through Sassoon Dock carrying fish between boats, sorting areas and markets. It is physically demanding work that has changed little over generations. Their movements are so practiced that even conversation continues uninterrupted. Part of a small documentary series exploring Sunday mornings in Mumbai.
The thing that caught my attention was the expression on the woman on the right. To me it transforms the image from two stoic women setting about their daily chores, the way I often see images of this activity, to two women in conversation.

I get that impression instantly. Put these two in contemporary cloths, in any community around the world, and they are just friends chatting away.
