Ganpati, Mumbai’s annual festival celebrating the Hindu god Ganesha, ends with visarjan, the ceremonial immersion of his idols in the sea. Amid the crowds and debris left behind, a young boy wades through the water carrying a large gada, or ceremonial mace, foraged from the remnants floating in the sea. Whether he plans to sell it or simply play with it, who knows. His small figure, dwarfed by the festival around him, caught my eye.
