Photographing the ultra-orthodox
I spent the past week in Jerusalem where I had a few photography goals, including shooting in an area of the city where on previous visits I hadn’t had the confidence to explore too much. Mea Shearim is the most ultra-orthodox part of Jerusalem and for that reason, visually distinct and, at least to me, interesting. With the help of a local photographer who gave me a bit of an intro to the place over a couple of hours, I explored and over two days produced some work I’m pretty happy with as a starting point for a project I might come back to in future years. I’m conscious that in its current form it’s really just a snapshot of the look and feel of the place, but I think that’s an inevitable characteristic of short term travel projects compared to ones you can revisit constantly closer to home. Grateful for any feedback or observations nonetheless. https://www.chrishumphreysphoto.com/mea-shearim
