Slowing Down
This, more than any other skill, is what I need to work on in my street photography. I thought it might resonate with others here as well.
I salute this young man's (apparently) largely gear-less philosophy to helping folks understand image-making. Unfortunately this video, perhaps meant as introductory, comes across as a bit of a profitless screed to me.
I’m not gonna lie, I had to google what that term meant and I agree, you have a point. Still it helped me with something I keep running up against. Out shooting today and it was the first time I slowed down.
Again, I tip my hat to his opinions and observations. 👍️
I'm going to find a moment later today or tomorrow to offer some thoughts that community members here might find constructive along the lines Mr. Thomas Tapy highlights.

I find it incredibly difficult to slow down, and this is something I’m constantly working on improving.
One of the main reasons I picked up photography was to help me slow down and connect more deeply with the world around me. However, my mind often runs at double speed, and consequently, my photography and pace tend to speed up too.
One reason I enjoy film photography is that it really forces you to slow down and think about every shot and action you take. It’s a shame it’s so expensive though.
I also resonated with the part about shooting less as you become more experienced. I’m not saying I have much experience but I tend to shoot less now. This made me a bit unsure whether I was progressing in my photography, but watching this video gave me some new perspectives.
Anyway, that was a long ramble from me, but thank you again for sharing the video. I’m following the channel now.
Good share, enjoy Tappys videos. I found that my main reason for not slowing down was to get away and not be seen. There is a calming zen like energy when you tell yourself you’re not doing anything wrong and every situation is manageable. Streets been a good teacher in that area of my life. What’s keeping you from slowing down more ?
I think it's largely for the same reason, but also a little anxiety that I might be missing something better. I want to witness every moment - I realize this is completely unrealistic, but it's there.

I love his videos and his way of explaining how he approaches street photography and documentary work and the bit about slowing down is so important but something I'm still pretty bad at! With me it is the fear of confrontation (I had one really bad one where I was threatened with violence (ironically I wasn't even taking a shot of said person) that shook me for a long time and made slowing down and getting closer quite hard for me (to be fair, it's the only time it's ever happened). I've found talking to people, particularly at events, helps me slow down and reduce my anxiety a bit and stops me from being too introverted as well. I think it's getting past the fast heartbeat and my brain telling me, illogically, that I'm doing something wrong that I find stops me slowing down. The other I think I need to practice is moving my feet more, changing my angles and viewpoints and, of course, saying a bit longer!

I am glad you're recovering from that bad experience, it can be difficult to shake that off and, so to speak, get back on the horse.
I am good with angles but have to practice at horizontals and verticals :-))
